A bench. That’s what made Stacy Lewis go misty-eyed when talking about her memories of the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. Lewis made the beloved leap into Poppie’s Pond in 2011, a moment that she will forever associate with a simple locker-room bench.

“I had done my press conference and went in the locker room. I was still wet, trying to find clothes to change into,” said Lewis, her voice cracking as she looked out at the 18th green. “I sat on that bench and called my college coaches, and it was like it all hit me there. We don't get to do that. I'm getting emotional about it, but this place is so special to us as a tour. I'm just going to miss the whole week.”

“Brittany Lincicome started playing on the L.P.G.A. Tour in 2005, when it was a struggling endeavor with few events. Now, in her 18th season, the tour is thriving and she has no plans to retire any time soon.

“My parents had said, ‘Play 10 years and you can retire,’” Lincicome said. “Now there’s no end in sight. The prize money is out there. The purses are going up every year. It would be hard to leave. Plus, I would love to get a win and have my daughter there with me.”

The memories of her victory in a major in 2007 are still quite vivid for Morgan Pressel, who culminated a great performance at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California with a series of “big putts” on 10, 12, 15 and the 72nd hole to win The Chevron Championship (then Kraft Nabisco).

“I remember standing on the range waiting for the final result and the rest was kind of a blur. Time went by really fast at that point. It was only my second year on Tour and probably the biggest moment in my career,” said 33-year-old Pressel, now a commentator for Golf Channel.

Morgan Pressel has played many different roles at the Solheim Cup: player, winning point-scorer, broadcaster. Now, she gets to add another title to that list: assistant captain. Stacy Lewis, the recently named American captain, has picked Pressel as her first assistant captain for the 2023 match in Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain. Team USA will be competing to take the cup back from Team Europe, after back-to-back losses in 2019 and 2021.

Fatima Fernandez Cano set a course and career low in the third round of the 2022 Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic with a 61.

Sunday, a steady 2-under 70 was enough to seal the deal at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, winning for the second time on the Epson Tour, the qualifying circuit known as the “Road to the LPGA”.

Fatima Fernandez Cano birdied her first three holes Saturday at the 2022 Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic. A bogey on the fourth was the only blemish on her scorecard. She made the turn with an eagle on the ninth. Then notched another eagle and four more birdies on the back nine at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.

In the end, Fernandez Cano signed for an 11-under 61 in the third round, setting a course and career record. Oh, it also happened to tie the lowest score in Epson Tour history.

It’s not a surprise Team USA has decided to go with a new captain for the 2023 Solheim Cup—but the name might be a little different than expected. On Wednesday, the LPGA announced Stacy Lewis has been selected to lead the Americans at the 2023 matches at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain

Lewis, a 13-time LPGA Tour winner and two-time major champion, served as an assistant captain in 2021 and, somewhat unofficially, in 2019 when a back injury forced her to withdraw from playing in Scotland. The 36-year-old has played in four Solheim Cups, with a career record of 5-10-1, and is the youngest woman to be selected as a U.S. captain (and second youngest overall). With her wealth of experience, she knows how important it is for players to feel comfortable during the stress-packed week.

Rogers native and fifth-year University of Arkansas golfer Brooke Matthews announced Friday she had made the decision to turn pro and forego her final spring with the Razorbacks.

Matthews, coming off two of the strongest seasons by a Razorback golfer, qualified for her LPGA Tour card last month with a 7-under score and a tie for 30th at the LPGA Q-Series in Dothan, Ala.

Early Wins In 2021 Help Liu Return To The LPGA Tour →

With only four events left in the 2021 Symetra Tour season, the top-10 in the Race for the Card is taking form. Lilia Vu was named the first Member this year to officially clinch a LPGA Tour Card for the 2022 season. Following her is six-time Symetra Tour Champion, Ruixin Liu.

This season was one to remember for Liu as she kicked off the year with her first playoff as a professional. Globally known amateur, Rose Zhang, put up a good fight at the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic, but ultimately Liu took home the champion title in Arizona. From there, Liu followed suit with another playoff only two events later and claimed her second win this season at the Casino del Sol Golf Classic.

Lewis goes home to Ohio for Solheim Cup as assistant captain →

Stacy Lewis is returning to her hometown in Ohio for the Solheim Cup, just not as a player.

U.S. captain Pat Hurst filled out her team Monday with four picks, two of them Solheim Cup rookies who have never won on the LPGA Tour.

The 36-year-old Lewis was picked to be an assistant captain and couldn’t have been more thrilled. Lewis was born in Toledo and played a role in getting the biennial matches against Europe to be held at Inverness Club.

Stacy Lewis first fell in love with Scotland when she went 5-0 over the Old Course at St. Andrews at the 2008 Curtis Cup. She’d go back to the Home of Golf as a professional in 2013 and win the AIG Women’s British Open at St. Andrews, then win for the first time as a mom at the 2020 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
