An All-GLVC second team selection in 2007, Shaffer led team in 11 categories including batting average (.347), slugging percentage (.467), runs (30), hits, doubles (12), total bases (93), games played (52), and games started (52).   In 2008, the NKU junior centerfielder grabbed first team All-GLVC honors after batting .331 in 49 games for NKU with 5 home runs, 15 stolen bases and 39 RBIs. In addition to being named Baseball America Preseason All-American, Shaffer was an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District second team during his junior campaign. The Seattle Mariners drafted Shaffer in the 15th round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
